New Year’s cake (Vasilopita)

The first day of the New Year we eat a special cake that is called “Vasilopita”. It is made of flour, eggs, butter, sugar and dry fruits. Inside we hide a coin. The one that will take the piece with the coin inside has luck for the whole year and we usually give him/her a present. Βασιλόπιτα

 

 

Την πρώτη μέρα του χρόνου τρώμε μια ξεχωριστή πίτα που ονομάζεται «Βασιλόπιτα». Φτιάχνεται από αλεύρι, αυγά, βούτυρο, ζάχαρη και ξερά φρούτα. Μέσα της κρύβουμε ένα νόμισμα. Αυτός ή αυτή που θα τύχει το κομμάτι με το νόμισμα θεωρείται ότι θα έχει τύχη τον καινούριο χρόνο. Φέτος η τυχερή της Ε΄1 τάξης ήταν η Εύα Μιχαήλ, αφού βρήκε το νόμισμα και πήρε για δώρο ένα βιβλίο.
