GREEK DIET HABITS

Here are some tips about the Greek diet habits:

Breakfast:

ü  Children usually eat cereals with milk

ü  Normally we consume bread with butter and marmalade or honey, cake or biscuits, milk and orange juice

ü  Adults drink coffee with breakfast

Small meal (we call it “dekatiano” from the word “deka” which means 10 o’clock):

ü  We can have a piece of spinach or cheese pie

ü  Another option can be bread with cheese or a sandwich

ü  Some people prefer to eat fruits

Lunch: We have lunch late, at about 2 or 3 o’clock.

ü  We always have salad, bread and cheese with our lunch

ü   We usually don’t eat meat on Wedsdays and Fridays. We eat legumes or vegetables

ü  The rest of the days we eat meat or fish with pasta, rice or potatoes

ü  After lunch we enjoy fruits or sweets as desert

ü  If we don’t have any obligations, we like to take a small nap after lunch

Around 5 o’clock:

For Greek people 5 to 7 o’clock is considered to be afternoon.

ü  We eat something sweet, like cake, biscuits or fruit

ü  We drink coffee

Dinner:

Greek people eat dinner late, usually after 9 o’clock.

ü   We prefer “take away” food, like pizza or souvlaki
